New bass!

Exciting news in the life of Styrofoam Tuna is the acquisition of a new instrument. Here is a fine specimen recently added to the arsenal. This is an original Framus cutaway upright bass, ca. 1968. Action is a little low at the nut, but servicable and easy enough to rectify. Overall a sound specimen with good playability, which should help me restore my upright bass chops.

Help!? 4x4 group needed!

This is a cry for help! Anyone in the PDX area who plans to purchase a season pass at Mt. Hood Meadows - STOP! Please help me put together a group of four so we can all save some $ and get a 4x4 pass! For those who don't know, the 4x4 at meadows saves each member of the group $174 off the regular early pass price. $425 for a pass that will cost $999 after November 13. If anyone is interested in starting a group, or needs one person to have a foursome, please contact me. Help me make it happen! Thanks!

EDIT: Changed my mind and bought a Fusion Pass

Mobile Blogger

Well, I finally decided to move in to the 21st century. Today I picked up a Kyocera 650 wireless internet card, and signed up with Verizon for wireless broadband. This is the present and the future of computing. No more wifi - I'm using EVDO, and I think I'm going to stick with it. No more hunting for a wi-fi hot spot, or waiting until I get home to get online. I am online everywhere, all the time. Cellular internet is the wave of the computing future, and I can see why. I think I could learn to love the little card sticking out of my PowerBook - it is not as pretty as the Apple machine, but it adds something no other device can - an internet connection that goes where I go. I will try to make a point of adding comments here, but so far all I can say is that I am happy. This looks like a great alternative for the wireless junkie like me. A little spendy, but well worth it - there is nothing else like it. Watch for me and my antenna all over Oregon. Sweet!

Working Man & a Music Show

Back to your regularly scheduled blog... the latest news from Nero is that we will be having a show on May 29th at D.I.V.A. in Eugene. Check neroband.net for the latest details - show should get going around 9pm, and there may be a guest drummer helping to keep things rocking. Don't miss it!

In other news, the Tuna is now working full time - bills had become urgent, so the need for money outweighed the desire for relaxation. Expect to see me wandering Corvallis in official City garb for the course of the summer. Be careful where you park! That is all for now...

PowerBook Replaced!

Well, after considerable hassle and a lengthy process, I finally had the old PowerBook replaced. Now I am on a new PowerBook, enjoying a faster machine with all the latest features. Pretty good considering the last time I bought an Apple out of pocket was in 2002... consider me a satisfied customer!

PowerBook finally ready to go... part 3

Okay, so on the day of Tiger release, April 29, I finally accepted the repairs on the PowerBook. It was horrible being away from the PB for five weeks after getting accustomed to convenience. Oh well. Apple tossed in a free copy of Tiger (10.4) for my trouble. Dashboard is a blast. My PowerBook is showing its limitations, but for me it is a great machine. I don't do much video...

Styrofoam Tuna is now an iTunes affiliate - check the homepage for the latest updates.

PowerBook, out and back and out again

Well, finally the screen on the PowerBook has been replaced. Unfortunately the case was damaged by the repair crew, so the Book is still in the shop. I will be checking on it today. The repair went in on March 28, and came back on April 5. If not for a bent case (near the drive bay) and a scratch across the back of the book, everything is ok. I think a new bottom case and battery will make me happy - wish me luck.
